DistroAV is an open-source plugin for OBS Studio that enables high-quality, low-latency transmission of audio and video streams over local area networks by integrating NewTek’s NDI (Network Device Interface) technology. Once installed, the plugin augments the standard OBS interface with three core functions: it can ingest any NDI stream present on the network as a regular OBS source, broadcast the program or preview feed from OBS back onto the network as a new NDI stream, and selectively publish individual sources or entire scenes as discrete NDI outputs. These capabilities make the tool equally valuable for content creators who want to offload encoding to a second computer, broadcasters seeking to route studio feeds between rooms without SDI cabling, educators capturing presentations from laptops in different classrooms, and esports tournament organizers that need to centralize multiple gaming rigs’ outputs into a single vision mixer. Because NDI traffic rides over conventional Gigabit Ethernet, setups become more modular and cable clutter is reduced without sacrificing frame accuracy or multi-channel audio. The plugin is actively maintained under the DistroAV banner and is currently offered in version 6.1.1, the first and therefore only release since the project’s rebranding from its predecessor “obs-ndi.” Installation requires a matching NDI runtime on the same Windows machine, after which the additional sources, filters, and outputs appear inside OBS automatically. The software is available for free on get.nero.com, with downloads provided via trusted Windows package sources such as winget, always delivering the latest version, and supporting batch installation of multiple applications.
